was raised in Honolulu and attended St. Louis High School, Tulane University, and Tulane Medical School. He is a fellowship-trained Anterior Segment-Glaucoma Specialist. This double-subject training has given Dr. Maehara extensive experience with complicated and advanced glaucoma management, LASIK, cataract and corneal transplants, and other refractive procedures. The faculty instructors at Tulane, the origin of his training, includes three of the world's top LASIK and refractive surgeons. He brings this experience to the Islands. Dr. Maehara is an avid fisherman.
has served the vision needs of Hawaii for over 25 years. Born and raised in Honolulu, Dr. Maehara attended Farrington High School, the University of Hawaii, and Tulane Medical School in Louisiana. He served in the United States Army in countries abroad, including South Korea. Subsequently, he received his Ophthalmology training at Tulane and returned to serve the communities of Honolulu and Waipahu. He has performed countless successful cataract and cosmetic eyelid surgeries. He was performing the "Asian blepharoplasty" years before it gathered its current popularity. Dr. Maehara is a year-round surfer and has won numerous winter ski competitions on the mainland.
